Remembering China's flood victims August 19

The host country of the ongoing World Expo already faced serious flooding in the early summer, and last week's heavy rain claimed even more victims. This year's floods have been the heaviest for over a decade, killing more than 1,450 people.


Research in scorching hot Shanghai August 05

Shanghai is being battered by a heat wave at the moment, with a wind chill factor reaching 47°Celsius at times. Electricity has even been temporarily cut in some factories across the city of Shanghai to ensure that households have power during the heat wave. The Expo have received around 30,000,000 visitors so far, but the peak is yet to come as we are expecting even more people during the summer vacation.


A pint, please... July 15

Since the opening of Shanghai 2010 on 1st May, 25 million people have visited the Expo. This number will certainly see major growth over the coming months, given the crowds that are likely to visit the more than 200 pavilions of Shanghai Expo during the summer holidays.


A busy Wallonia-Brussels week July 01

The jam-packed Wallonia-Brussels week saw the city of Liège launch its bid to host the International Expo in 2017. To mark the occasion, "La Cité ardente" invited commissioners from other pavilions and foreign consuls in Shanghai to raise support through debates and cultural performances for an International Expo in a city that has undergone many changes over the last few years in terms of infrastructure, leisure activities and culture, and also with a view to organising Liège 2017.


Activities and events at the Belgian pavilion June 28

A series of activities have been held at the Belgian pavilion since its opening, on May 1. Our pavilion has now been open for over 2 months, and we can pride ourselves on having got off to a strong start. We are receiving approximately 30-40,000 visitors per day at present, which makes our pavilion one of the most-visited.

Ready for a hot summer June 17

The Belgian pavilion celebrated its national day last 13th June, with Prince Philippe, minister of State Annemie Neyts and representatives of our business community in attendance. For once it was relatively quiet in terms of visitor numbers: we had only opened our pavilion to our guests who numbered around 600 in order to give them the opportunity to visit our pavilion in ideal conditions, which would have been a great deal more difficult with thousands of Chinese there too!


A good start is half the job June 03

Our pavilion has now been open for over a month, and we can pride ourselves on having got off to a strong start. We are receiving 25-30,000 visitors per day at present, which makes our pavilion one of the most-visited.


The time has come! May 20

The biggest Expo in history has been launched with an amazing show on the day before the official opening of 1st May. The first heaps of visitors out of the potential 80 million have already been around the pavilions, demonstrating the necessary patience in the ubiquitous queues.


The final countdown April 29

The day after tomorrow will see the launch of Expo Shanghai 2010 - the World Expo that is set to beat all existing records in terms of visitor numbers - with talk of more than 80 million visitors in 6 months, who will be visiting a selection of the more than 200 pavilions.

Two weeks before the launch, and the Expo Shanghai 2010 site is a hive of activity! The final touches are being made to our Belgian EU pavilion, which incidentally is receiving excellent reviews in the Chinese press
