Volunteers expand their service outside the Expo site

On june 20th, the volunteers set up a dozens of stalls along the famous Nanjing Road in Shanghai, offering consultancy on health care, legal issues, psychological counseling ... Their service attracted numerous people and was appreciated by the Shanghai citizens.

June 20th is also the Community Service Day. According to reporters from the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, there are nearly 100,000 community volunteers of 2000 volunteers participating in the activities of the day, serving 600,000 residents. The volunteers offers about 30 types of services, involving all aspects of life. It is reported that similar community volunteer services will be offered on the 20th of every month after this.

The volunteers' services received very positive feed back, the public are touched by the spirit of the volunteers. "Volunteer activities form a community identity, not only to achieve a harmonious and stabled community, but also makes the concrete city of Shanghai feels warmer," said one of the people, "I hope there will be more and more activities like this in the future."

The 20th of every month will be Community Volunteer Service Day, but volunteer services has no limited days. According to incomplete statistics, Minhang District had more than 600 community services activities with 14000 volunteers in just two months. In Baoshan District 37000 volunteers carried out 400 services. At present, the number of registered community volunteers in Shanghai has reached 151,000.
